Chapter 4

Edge was explaining to the guys what he needed them to do. He told them that he would need all the research that they could get him from the library regarding vampires and vampirism. He would need to know who was the best blood specialist in the world. When he said that Christian said "How about we talk to Amy? She knows a lot of people in the field. She should be able to help". "I know she does, but she’ll want to know why you guys need a blood specialist" Edge said. "You mean you don’t plan on letting her know what is going on?" Matt asked. "I don’t think so" Edge said. "I think she has a right to know that you are alive" Jeff said. "NO!!!" Edge yelled as he got up and started to pace the room. "And why not" Christian persisted. "Because if I’m not able to become human again, I don’t want her to suffer more than she already has. I think it’s better that she think I’m still dead" Edge answered. Christian stood in front of him and looked him in the eyes. "Is that really how you feel?" he asked. "No. I wish I could hold her in my arms right now" Edge said as he turned away from his brother. "So why don’t you go and explain it to her. I know she will understand and try to help" Matt said. "Oh I know that too, if the shock of seeing me alive doesn’t kill her first" Edge replied. "Maybe in time" Edge added.

"Now I need you guys to do something else for me. It’ll start getting light pretty soon and I need a place to hide until it gets dark again. They decided that Edge would sleep in the bathtub in Christians room this way would not be bothered by anyone and no sunlight would reach him. Christian would leave the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door so that housekeeping would not come in. They took the cooler with the blood and put it in the bathroom also. They took all the extra sheets, pillows and blankets that they could find in their rooms and arranged them in the tub for Edge so that he could be more comfortable. As daylight was approaching they all went to their rooms as they would have a lot of legwork to do during the daylight hours. Jeff would be going to the library to do the research, Matt would be checking out the hospitals for blood specialists and Christian would go speak to a man who claimed to be a vampire slayer. They would all meet back in Christian’s room at nightfall. Edge went and laid down in the tub and Christian made sure the bathroom door was locked. He put towels under the door to make sure that no sunlight that filtered into the room would be able to reach Edge. Christian then drew all the drapes closed and went to bed. As Edge lay in his semi-trance like sleep his thoughts were on Amy.

Jeff spent all day at the library writing notes and copying pages from books. Most of the books told him that for someone to reverse the effects caused by being bitten by a vampire they had to not have made a kill, and they had to find the vampire who made them and kill them. Jeff sat back in his chair and ran his hand over his face as he said "I feel like I’m back in school cramming for an exam". He sighed, opened another book and starting making more notes.

Matt went to a medical office which had a main listing of doctors and after much persuasion and using of his charms he was able to find a female clerk who told him that the listing for blood specialists was very small, but that the number one man in the field worked at hospital in Pennsylvania. When she said the name of the hospital, Matt knew that it was the same one that Amy worked in. He thanked the girl, after promising to get in touch with her the next time he was in town and headed back to the hotel.

Christian finally was able to track the vampire slayer, a man by the name of Jacob Combs. After pounding the pavement and inquiring in several places. Christian found him in the back of an occult book store. He spoke to Jacob at length and was told the same thing that Jeff had found out through his research of the books. Jacob explained that killing the vampire who had created another would not be easy, especially if he didn’t know who it was. Christian asked him if there was anything that could be accomplished by a blood specialist. Jacob told him that the only blood specialist that he knew of who had been working on something along those lines was Theodore Brackman from Pennsylvania. Christian instantly knew that he was at the hospital where Amy worked. He was her boss. He thanked Jacob and left to head back to the hotel.

As nightfall approached, Edge opened his eyes and got out of the tub. He was extremely hungry so he once again went to the cooler. When he opened it, like before, the hunger attacked. His fangs descended and he bit into a packet. He drank several of them until he wasn’t hungry anymore. He looked in the mirror and could see that the blood had run down his chin and stained his t-shirt. "This is disgusting" he said as he ripped the t-shirt off, feeling very dirty. He removed everything from the tub and took a shower to try to wash the dirty feeling off of himself.

The guys walked in as he was bathing. They could hear the shower going so they sat down to eat the take out food that they had picked up on the way over. When Edge walked out of the bathroom, the guys were still sitting at the small table eating. Edge walked over to them and grabbed a piece of chicken from Christian’s plate. "Hey I thought you could only drink blood" Christian said. "That’s what my body craves for, but I still can ingest regular food, even though I don’t need it. I just wanted to make sure I hadn’t forgotten what REAL food tasted like" he added as he laughed. "Hey, can I borrow one of your t-shirts? I seemed to have torn mine" he said to Christian. "Hey bro, no problem. Help yourself. They’re in my bag" Christian said as he continued to eat. Edge went over to Christian’s bag and pulled out a black t-shirt and put it on.

He sat on the bed to wait for the guys to finish eating. When they were done. He sat at the table with them and they discussed what they had found out. They spoke well into the night hashing out a plan on how to find out who the vampire that bit him was. They had to perform that night again in Chicago, but after that they would be off for a week. They decided to go back to the club where the incident had happened and see if they could find out something. They also decided to enlist the help of the vampire slayer who said he would help if they needed. Edge also decided that he would have to somehow enlist the help of the blood specialist if he was to go on. He did not know how to do that without getting Amy involved. He told them he needed a few days to think that one over, but that they should start the ball rolling with their investigations.

The guys left to go to the arena and Edge headed to Pennsylvania. He arrived several minutes later and observed Amy entering the building.

He snapped back to the present. He could hear her moving around inside the apartment. He wanted so much to go to her, but knew that the time wasn’t right yet. Maybe within the next few days. He sighed as he got up from the bench and went back to Chicago to wait for the guys to come back.
