Welcome To The Wrestling Crypt - Lady B's Lawler, The Kat And Rakishi Experience
Went to Northeast Wrestling- Silk City Slam featuring Rikishi Phatu, Jerry "The King Lawler" and Ms. Kitty which was held at Paterson Catholic High School, Paterson New Jersey, start time 7:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.
They meet with the fans during the intermission which was before they wrestled. Rikishi came out into the ring and was photographed with many of the audience present. It was so crowded that you could barely get near the ring. I stood back and took pictures of him and he autographed an 8x10 picture of himself for me when he was done with the picture taking in the ring. Rikishi is a very nice person and has a way of looking at you when you first approach him which seems to say ‘Stay away', but then all of a sudden he smiles and is very friendly. Polaroid pictures with Rikishi were $10.00 a piece, but not autographed as he did not have enough time to be photographed with everyone who was present and wanted photos with him.
Jerry Lawler and Ms. Kitty were up on the stage signing autographs. If you brought a picture from them they would personalize it. If you just gave them something to sign they would just put their signature on it. Jerry Lawler was very friendly and I even had a chance to speak to him and tell him that I enjoyed his announcing immensely, that he was funny and made me laugh. He said thank you and smiled. His autograph picture was $10.00.
Ms. Kitty on the other hand appeared as if she really didn't want to be there. She would put on a smile when people approached her and as soon as they left she would look miserable. Her autograph picture was $10.00.
Polaroid pictures autographed with Ms. Kitty AND Jerry Lawler were $15.00.
The wrestling matches consisted of some up and coming wrestlers such as Xavier, Joey Matthews, Christian York, Rough House Ralph Mosca, Julio Fantastico, Lightening Mike Quackenbush (their current champion) and several others. All of these wrestlers were available during intermission and their autographs were going for $3.00 a piece on an 8x10 photo. They were very nice and I had an opportunity to speak to all of them during the intermission and photograph my niece with some of them.
Jerry Lawler fought against Julio Fantastico (whom I had seen at the First Union Center in a dark match at the taping of Smackdown back in November 1999) and beat him in a match where if Fantastico won Lawler would bring him to the WWF and if he lost his manager Ms. Kara would have to show her puppies. When Lawler won, Ms. Kara did not want to remove her shirt and Lawler went over to one of the guards to speak to him. I overheard when he said to the guard to agree with him in what he was going to say next. Lawler got on the microphone and said that if Ms. Kara showed her puppies, not only would she go to jail, but he would be arrested too. The crowd booed and the guard agreed and removed his handcuffs to emphasize the statement that Lawler had just made. At this point Ms. Kitty slapped Julio Fantastico's manager Ms. Kara and a cat fight ensued in which the two ‘ladies' rolled around the ring showing
their tong panties. Julio Fantastico, the King and some of the referees finally pulled them apart and Fantastico carried Ms. Kara out of the arena draped over his shoulder still kicking and screaming, while the King raised Ms. Kitty's hand as the winner.
As Rikishi came out for his fight I grabbed his arm and he looked at me with a smile. He tagged with Og and fought Corporal Punishment and beat them. He gave one of them the famous butt splash from the second rope and did his victory dance with his partner and the referee. He stood in the ring for a while so that all could photograph him doing his dance.
All in all it was a very entertaining night. I would recommend to all, if you have the opportunity to go see them outside of a WWF wrestling event, do so. They are very nice people to talk to.
