Lady In Waiting

Chapter 15

For the next four years, at the beginning of each summer, Marqus got a telegram from Cainan. He would not be coming home. One year he and a friend traveled Europe, the next year Africa. The third year he went to America. His friend returned, Cainan did not. He liked America, and decided to stay. He started an import/export business. He wrote Marqus for financial help, suggesting they work together. Marqus wasn't pleased that he would be staying in America, but agreed to give it a try.

Within a year, the business was flourishing. Also within that year, Cainan met and married Isabella. In the spring of 1894, she gave birth to their son. Cainan also received a letter from Marqus asking him to visit. Zebrina would be celebrating her sixteenth birthday. Since he was married, with a son, Cainan felt he could return to Dawlish. He missed Marqus terribly. He wanted him to know his son and wife. He sent Marqus a note saying they would be there.

Marqus was thrilled when he read Cain's letter. "Zebrina,, Sharley,,good news! Cainan is finally coming home!.He and his family will be to celebrate your birthday child", he told them. "Marqus,,that's wonderful news, its been so long since we've seem him", Zebrina exclaimed, as she hugged Marqus.

Sharley stood back, she had heard Cainan was married. Her dreams of marrying one of the brothers were dashed. She was sure Marqus would take Zebrina as his wife when she turned eighteen. Sharley had just turned eighteen. She had hoped Marqus would notice her. But he had not, she resigned herself to finding a suitable husband. Though none of her suitors had yet to win her heart.

"Sharley,we will have to prepare his rooms", Zebrina said,"As we did when I first met him". They left Marqus to make their plans. They would have to find a crib for the baby. Marqus watched them leave. He watched the girl in particular. She had grown to be beautiful, as he knew she would. He felt the time for them to be together was growing near. He decided he would confide in Cainan when he arrived.

Cainan was due to arrive the day before Zebrina's birthday. As the day grew closer, the excitement in the house grew. Marqus hired extra servants and cleaners. He told Sharley she would attend the party as a guest, Zebrina's friend, not as a servant. He took both girls to town to buy new dresses. Marqus received a telegram from Cain, they were safely in England. They would arrive in three days time. As he read the note, his eyes filed with tears, it had now been five years since he last saw Cain. He often wondered why Cain chose not to come home. He asked many times in letters, but Cainan never answered.

"That's not important now", he uttered to himself,"He'll be home soon."

The day had finally arrived, Marqus ordered the front doors be left open so they could see when his carriage turned onto the road leading to the house. When Zebrina and Sharley were through with their studies, they sat on the steps and waited.

It was Zebrina who first saw the carriage. "He's here!,,,Marqus!", she called,"He's here!". Marqus hurried to the front of the house. He, Zebrina, and Sharley stood outside and watched the carriage approach.

As he had five years ago,Cainan looked to the house to see three figures waiting for him. He looked at his wife and son and smiled. Isabella smiled back. She often wondered about her husband's home land. She was excited to be meeting his brother finally. She kept from Cain the fact that she was ill. She would tell him when they got back home.

"Are you alright my Dear?", he asked. "I'm fine, just a little nervous. I want make a good impression on your brother". Cainan reached over and touched her hand,"Don't worry so Isabella, my love, he will like you." He looked out the window, as they reached the house.

Chapter 16

Marqus stood watching as the carriage approached. His eyes blurred with tears he refused to let flow. He stepped toward the carriage as it came to a stop. Cainan stepped out. They embraced. "Its good to have you home Cain".

"It's good to be back, how I have missed you", Cain's voice broke with emotion. Isabella watched the brothers, then glanced at Zebrina and Sharley. She wondered which was the one her husband had spoken of.

As the brothers parted, Cainan said,"Well, meet my family, Marqus, this is my wife, Isabella and my son,,,,William Cainan". "It is wonderful to finally meet you Isabella. I see the boy was lucky enough to get his mother's good looks", he teased Cain.

"Please come inside, you must be tired after your trip". Cainan greeted Sharley and Zebrina as they walked inside. "You have grown to be very beautiful child, you must have many suitors", he winked at Sharley.

"Zebrina, how are you?". "I'm fine Cainan, welcome home". "Thank-you girl", he said as if dismissing her. After the evening meal, Cainan showed Isabella their rooms. When she was settled he joined Marqus in the den. "Can I get you some wine Cainan?", Marqus asked. "Yes,,please". "How was your trip over?". "It was harder on Isabella I think. Babies don't seem to mind these things", he said.

"You have a beautiful family, your're very lucky". "What are you waiting for Marqus, I know the ladies in this town have always fawned over you. You could have your pick. You are getting older, and uglier I might add", Cain said good-naturedly.

"I want to talk to you about that very subject. I have someone in mind". Cainan briefly turned away from Marqus, sure he would speak Zebrina's name.

Marqus and Zebrina stood by the door as the guests started to arrive. Sharley stood next to Zebrina and took the many gifts she received. The girls watched as the young, single ladies flirted with Marqus. They giggled when they noticed how uncomfortable he was.

"All the ladies are so beautiful, Marqus. Will you dance with them all?", Zebrina teased. "I will not young lady, I will only dance with the two most beautiful ladies. Once with you, and once with Sharley if she would permit it". Sharley blushed and lowered her head. "I would be honored Sir". "Are you sure Sharley ,my brother tells me I'm getting old and ugly",he said as he smiled at her. "If you don't mind me saying Sir, you are not old, and not ugly at all". "I don't mind you saying that at all", he stood between the girls, putting an arm around each, he said,"Shall we join our guests?".

Cainan watched as Marqus held the girl close to him as they danced. One woman commented to him that it was indecent the way he held her."They dance like lovers",she said. Cainan silently agreed. "Marqus, you are the talk of the town. The ladies think it indecent the way you danced with the girl". "Let them think what they want, I've made my choice. And I am now sure she feels the same".

After all was quiet in the house, Zebrina put on her robe and went down stairs. She went out the front door and sat down on the step, her knees pressed against her chest. Her eyes filled with tears as she looked in to the darkened yard. She was confused by her feelings. She should be happy. Marqus was happy, Cainan was home to visit. She lived a privileged life. Marqus' friends treated her good.

"But only when Marqus is with me", she whispered to herself. She had on occasion heard some disparaging remarks aimed at her when he wasn't around. Cain to she felt was treating her the same way. His wife kept her distance, she barely talked to her. Mostly she wouldn't let these things bother her, but sometimes it was to much for her. She would go off by herself till she felt better.

He stepped out into the cool night air, wanting a moment to himself. He saw the girl sitting on the step, her long golden curls gently blowing in the night breeze. She didn't know he was there. He watched her for a moment. He then realized she was sobbing. "What's wrong girl, you should be in bed". Zebrina was startled at the sound of his voice. She stood and turned to face him.

"Cainan,,you startled me". "I'm sorry girl, It wasn't my intention to frighten you. Your weeping, what's wrong?.Why are you out here?" Zebrina tried to rush by him saying,"Nothing is wrong, I'm just tired and hot. The house is sweltering tonight". Cainan caught her arm as she tried to pass by. "Don't lie to me Zebrina", he turned her to face him. He take her face in his hand and raised it till she looked at him. Fresh tears ran down her cheeks. "What bothers you so child?".

His voice was soft and caring,"Is it the comments of the so called Ladies?.They are jealous of you, don't take it to heart." Zebrina looked up at him, his deep blue eyes showing concern. It was the first time since he arrived that he showed any caring for her. "I know I shouldn't, I hoped it would stop for this day. Cainan,,,it bothers me too that Isabella doesn't think kindly of me. I so wanted her to like me". Cainan was a little taken aback by her words. "Isabella is a very shy woman Zebrina, and the trip over was hard on her. Don't take her actions to heart." Without thinking he leaned down and kissed her forehead. Dispite all his efforts, he had developed a special place for Zebrina in his heart. "Come girl..It's late. We both need to rest".

Chapter 17

All to soon it was time for Cainan to leave. Before he left, he and Marqus discussed moving Marqus' part of their business to the east coast of England.Cain knew Marqus would never consider moving to America.

Marqus agreed to make a trip to the east coast and check it out.

The trip home for Cainan and Isabella was not pleasant. Isabella was ailing. She finally told Cain that she was sick before they left the States. Cainan brought the ship's doctor to their cabin to check her.He thought she might have pneumonia, but couldn't be sure. He gave her some medicines and told her to stay in bed.

Cainan took the responsibility of William's care. He silently wished they had not made the trip. The voyage home seemed to last forever. Isabella was weak and tired the whole trip. The medicine didn't help much. The doctor didn't know what else to do for her. He had mentioned to Cain that it might be something more serious, or she should have had medicine sooner to combat the pneumonia. He advised Cain to see a doctor as soon as they docked in New York. An x-ray of her lungs would tell them more.

Cainan was worried, and tired. William was fussy, wanting his mother. The doctor urged Cain to keep the child away from Isabella, just to be safe. He arranged for one of the ship's housekeepers to care for the child a couple of hours a day. To allow Cainan to be with Isabella, and to rest. It would not do for him to be ill too.

When the boat docked, Isabella insisted she was fine. She just wanted to go home. Cain hired a carriage to take them to Albany. It would be a long trip. By the time they reached their home, Isabella was again coughing, she was pale and feverish. Cain immediately sent for the local doctor. He again gave her medicine and told her to stay in bed. He would be back in a week.

Cainan spent his days trying to get caught up on the business. He found that a trusted employee was stealing from him. He would have to spend more hours working to make up for the loss.

He sent Marqus a telegram. Telling him of the of the robbery, and of Isabella's illness. He hired a nanny to care for William. He sat in his office one day, leaning back in his chair, his eyes closed. The stress of Isabella's illness was taking its toll. The doctors couldn't seem to tell him what was wrong. He felt alone, scared and worried. He wished he was closer to Marqus.

Over the next year, Isabella would have times when she could help with William's care. Have potential customers to dinner and be a wife to Cain. But there were times when she couldn't do these things. Towards the end of the year, these times were getting more frequent. The persistent cough was worse.

Under the doctor's orders, Cain checked her into the hospital for a thorough exam. It would take almost a week of testing to discover what was wrong. Isabella was exhausted. She slept as Cain sat next to her bed, holding her hand. The doctors had just told them what they found. They called it Consumption. A sickness of the lungs that often spread to the kidneys and bones. Isabella was in the secondary stages. The doctors didn't expect her to live for more than a year, if that long.

Cain was devastated. What would he do without her?.William needed his mother. It wasn't fair that she should be taken from them. He pressed her hand against his cheek, as a tear slid from his eye.

Chapter 18

Marqus' heart broke as he read the letter from Cainan. Isabella died a month earlier. After almost a year of suffering, she was finally at rest. She had been put in a sanitarium, even though Cain objected to this. It was customary to do so.

During this time Cainan's part of the business suffered greatly. Trusted employees were embezzling money, orders were not filled, bill collectors were hounding him. Cain paid what he could, then closed the business for good, he had no desire to build it back up.

He told Marqus that he was going to sell whatever he owned and come home. He should expect him within the year.

Marqus could feel Cain's heartache, as if he was standing next to him. Now all he could do was wait for another letter. As he sat with his head in his hands, a small hand touched his arm. "Marqus?", Zebrina asked,"Is everything alright?".

He looked up with a start."No child, things are not good. Isabella has passed on. Cainan is devastated." Zebrina's eyes filled with tears.."Oh, Marqus, how terrible for Cainan,,,and poor William. How will he manage?".

Marqus held her in his arms,"He will sell all his belongings and then he is coming home.Where he belongs".

When Zebrina was alone in her room that night, she thought of Cainan."How sad he must be", she whispered to no one. She thought back to when Sharley's father passed on. Sharley was heartbroken. She and Marqus had done their best to comfort her. She remembered holding Sharley as she wept at the funeral.

Now she sobbed quietly knowing Cainan was out of her reach. She hoped when he arrived she could help in some way. Maybe he would let her care for William.

Marqus sat thinking of Cainan. It has been 7 months since the news of Isabella's death. He hoped everyday for news of his arrival. In the years Cain was gone, he never stopped worrying about him, and never got use to him being so far away. It would be a blessing to have him back home. "Marqus!". The sound of his name being called startled him. He stood and started for the door. At that moment Zebrina and Sharley burst into the room.

"What is it child, what has you so excited?". "Look Marqus,,,a letter from Cainan. Is he finally coming home?. When will he arrive?", Zebrina asked excitedly. "Calm yourself child. Let me read the letter first.". As he read the letter a smile slowly formed on his lips. "He's on his way. The letter was mailed a week prior to his departure. He should arrive here in two weeks. He's coming home Zebrina,,,he's finally coming home", his voice broke as he he put his arms around both girls.

Over the next two weeks, they prepared for Cain's arrival. Again, Sharley and Zebrina cleaned his room. Marqus thought William should have his own room.

They bought new furnishings and made the room as cheery as possible. They also filled it with the newest toys. Once everything was ready, all they could do was wait. "Things are so different now", Marqus said to himself. Sharley's father had not been replaced. Beatrice was the only servant they had now. Zebrina would soon be eighteen. Sharley just turned twenty. The years had flown by, he thought.

Once Cainan was home and settled, he would announce his plans to marry. He has waited along time. Now she was of age. She would be his, they would have their own family.

Cainan stood by the railing of the ship. He held his sleeping son tightly against his chest. He watched as the Statue of Liberty disappear from sight as they left New York harbor. He visited Isabella's grave one last time before leaving Albany. He felt as if he were abandoning her. But there was nothing left for him there. He wanted to go home.

William stirred in his arms, Cain softly kissed his head, then turned to go to their cabin.

Chapter 19

During the voyage to England, Cainan mostly stayed in his cabin. Except for meals and an occasional walk around the deck. He did his best to keep William entertained, but it was getting tedious. He was relieved to finally see the Southampton coast line.

Zebrina stood in Cainan's rooms. She wanted everything to be perfect for him. He had been through so much. "What are you doing Child?", Marqus' voice broke into her thoughts. "I just want everything to be right when Cainan arrives. When will he get here?".

"I can't say for sure Zebrina,it could he anytime now. But it might not be till late this evening. Come, you've done all you can. Beatrice has dinner ready." With his hand on her shoulder he coaxed her out of the room. After their meal, Marqus, Sharley and Zebrina sat on the steps hoping to see Cainan's carriage turn on to the road. There was still no sign of him at sunset.

Marqus shooed the girls inside, they all made themselves comfortable in the den. Not to long after they went inside, Zebrina fell asleep. Marqus carried her to her room. Sharley went to her room an hour or so later. As Marqus sat waitng, he too, dozed off.

It was well after midnight when Cainan's carriage stopped in front of the house. Marqus was awakened but the clatter of the horses. He rushed to door, opening it in time to see his brother climb out. "Cainan!". He turned at the sound of his brother's voice. His eyes filled with tears. All the hurt, all the heartache and disappointments of the last two years came back to him. He could not hold it in any longer.

Marqus grabbed him as his knees buckled. He held on tight ,Cainan was finally home. His own eyes strung with tears. Cainan allowed his tears flow. He leaned against his brother sobbing. Feeling as if a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, relieved to be home.

Marqus held him till Cainan's sobs started to subside. "You're home boy, you're home. Come, lets get you and your son inside. You must be exhausted". Cain lifted William from the carriage as Marqus and the driver brought his belongings in to the house. Cain headed upstairs, Marqus followed with two of his bags. He guessed they were the one Cain would need.

Cainan got William settled in the crib. As Marqus watched, he undressed to the waist. "Goodnight Cainan, we'll talk in the morning", Marqus said as he turned to leave. "Marqus", Cain walked over to him and embraced him,"Thank-you for taking us in". "This is your home Cainan. There is no need for thanks. Get some rest".

She lay in bed listening to the footsteps in the hall. She heard doors open and close. She knew Cain had arrived. Sleep would not come to her. She got out of bed and opened the window. The full moon was shining brightly, it lit the road leading to the house. She could still see the tracks left by the carriage.

She had so wanted to see him. She missed him. Her feeling for him grew stronger over the years. It broke her heart when he married. Though she felt bad when Isabella died, a part of her was happy. She knew he would be hers.

She was so lost in her thoughts she hadn't notice the sun was starting to rise. She left her room. Standing in front of his room, she quietly opened the door. She stepped inside. In the dimly lit room she could see him on the bed. She moved closer. "How handsome he is", she thought to herself. She felt a tingle go through her body as she looked at his well muscled chest.

She stood watching him sleep till she heard William stir in his crib. She went to check on him. He lay there looking back at her. "Daddy?", he said. "Shhh,,,,your daddy is sleeping. You come with me, let daddy rest". She lifted him out of the crib and left the room.

Cainan lifted his head and watched her leave.

Chapter 20

It was noon before Cain made his way downstairs. Seeing Marqus in the parlor, he asked about William. "He is with Sharley and Zebrina in the back field. He has been fed and well taken care of". "I'm sure he is enjoying the attention. It has been hard on him too. He still asks for mummy".

"The girls will fill that void for him," Marqus said, putting an arm around his brother's shoulder,"Come to the kitchen, Beatrice has plenty of food ready". When they both had filled their plates, Marqus directed Cainan outside. Zebrina had convinced him to put a table and chairs outside. She had seen it done at one of the town's ladies home. He explained to Cainan. "Things have changed here brother. I don't ever remember going to the kitchen for food. And eating outside was not thought of. Mother would be appalled. But I like it, it seems freeing some how", Cainan said.

"Yes she would,,,,,but times change, we must change with them." "Daddy!". Cainan looked up to see his son running toward him. He stood and scooped him up into his arms. "How's my little man?", he asked, hugging William to his chest. "Playing with `Brina and,,,Sh,,arl,,e", he answered, pronouncing Sharley very slowly, to say it right.

"Good for you.How about we get you something to eat?". "Yes daddy", William patted his stomach, "Hungry". Cainan took him inside to fix a plate. As they came back out,Zebrina and Sharley were just sitting down. "May I get you ladies something to eat?", Marqus asked.

"Yes,please Marqus". They both answered. When Marqus left, Cainan looked straight at the girl. She bowed her head, averting her eyes and trying to hide the blush that colored her face. The sight of his bare chest still fresh in her mind. "Thank-you child, for caring for William. It was kind of you to do so".

With her head still bowed she answered,"Your welcome. I thought you might be tired", Her blush deepened as she realized he had seen her in his room. Cainan kept his eyes on her. She had grown to be very beautiful. He felt himself stir with desire. It had been a year since Isabella's death. They had not shared a bed since they returned from England. He stayed true to her during her illness.

"Here you go Ladies, enjoy your lunch". Marqus' voice broke into his thoughts. "If you all will excuse me, I'm going to put William down for a nap. Thank-you again, Ladies for caring for him.", he said as he stood to leave.

Cainan lay his son in his crib, grateful that he fell asleep. He was still feeling the effects of the long trip, as he undressed, he went to the window and looked out. His eyes settling on the girl. " I have missed you child. I love you now as I did when I first left here," he whispered to himself.

He walked to the bed and lay down, his eyes closed but not sleeping. He wondered what Marqus would think if he knew..Would he allow him to court her?. He thought back to Zebrina's sixteenth birthday. Marqus told him he had chosen someone to marry. Cainan turned away, sure of who his choice would be.

"Cain,,,did you hear me?", Marqus asked. "I'm sorry, Marqus, I was watching Isabella and William". He lied, his thoughts had been on the girl. "Well, I know she's young, I'll wait till she turns twenty to ask for her hand. She captured my heart along time ago, when her mother died. She has grown more beautiful than I ever imagined. I just hope she feels the same as I', he said.

"Marqus,,I'm sure you have nothing to worry about, Zebrina will most definitely say yes to your proposal". "Cainan,,dear brother, you haven't listened at all. Sharley is my choice, not Zebrina."

He had not acknowledged his feelings for Zebrina till that night. But he had chosen Isabella. He would not leave her and William. When Isabella died, he felt responsible. Although he loved her, it was not as strong as his love for Zebrina. Many nights, alone in a separate room, he thought of her. When Isabella was committed to the sanitarium, he had wished for Zebrina to be in his bed.

These thoughts weighted heavy on his conscience. The doctor told him that because Isabella volunteered in the local hospital, she left herself open to any number of illnesses. Cainan should consider himself and William lucky that they had not fallen victim as Isabella had.

He would miss Isabella, but he would now have Zebrina, whether or not Marqus approved. He lay on the bed, one arm around his head, one draped across his belly. In his mind, he saw Zebrina enter his room, as she stood looking at him, he beckoned her closer. He took her into his arms, loosening her robe and dropping it to the floor. She stood before him, naked.

As he thought of her, his hand traveled down his belly. His thoughts of Zebrina, again, brought him relief.

Ch-21

It was late afternoon when Cainan returned downstairs, William following closely behind him. They entered the parlor, where Zebrina was working on her embroidery.

Cainan stood behind her, "That is very beautiful Child", he told her. "Thank-you Cainan". Cainan walked to the window and looked out. His eyes came to rest on Marqus and Sharley walking hand in hand down the road. He closed his eyes and picture himself and Zebrina walking together.

"Zebrina, are you disappointed that Marqus chose Sharley and not you?", Cain asked, without turning around.

Cainan's question surprised her, Marqus had been like a father to her, how could she feel as Sharley did for him?

What surprised her more, was the fact that in all the years she had been here, it was the first time Cainan spoke her name. "No Cainan", she answered," Marqus has been a father to me. I couldn't love him as Sharley does. She has loved him for a long time. Since I first arrived here".

Zebrina's answer assured Cainan that she would not be mourning the loss of Marqus. He turned and looked at her. She was now standing, with William in her arms.

"How do you think of me Zebrina?", he asked, in a low, whispered voice.

The deep, softness of his voice sent a shiver through her body. She felt her cheeks warm with the beginning of a blush.

She dared to look up at him. As she met his gaze, his deep blue eyes seemed to look in to her soul. As she lowered her eyes she said," You have not been here much these past years Cainan. It is hard to know you. I always wondered if your absence was because of me.

Cainan moved to stand in front of her. She was right, he stayed away because of her. But not out of dislike as he had tried to make her and Marqus believe. Though he did deny his feelings, she was but a child when he meet her. How could he love a child? But it was when Marqus was stabbed that he knew he loved her. He could no longer deny it. That too, was when he decided to stay away.

When he received letters from Marqus, he first looked for news of Zebrina. Especially after her sixteenth birthday, he watched for news of any suitors.

"It was because of you Zebrina, but not for the reasons you might think"

It was at that moment they heard the front door open and close. Marqus and Sharley came into the parlor, holding hands and smiling.

"Good, your both here. It's time to let you both know that Sharley has agreed to be my wife".

"Congratulations, though I must say, it is not a surprise. Zebrina and I were just wondering when the announcement would be made. Sharley, my dear, welcome to the family", Cainan bent and kissed her cheek.

"Thank-you Sir,,,,,,Cainan", it felt strange to call him by his name. She went over to Zebrina and hugged her. "I'm so happy Zebrina", she whispered. "I'm happy for you", Zebrina whispered back. She looked to see Cainan watching her. A slight smile formed on his lips. "Could he feel the same as I?", she wondered.

Marqus interrupted her thoughts. "Well,, it smells like Beatrice is about to serve supper. Shall we go to the dining room?"

He went to Sharley and put his arm around her. William reached up for Cainan's hand. He smiled down at his son. Then, looking back at Zebrina, he offered her his arm.

She went to him, winding her arm through his, her tiny hand resting on his forearm. The warmth of her skin touching his traveled through his body.

Chapter 22

Wedding plans started immediately. Marqus didn't want to wait any longer than he had too.He had already waited ten years. He and Sharley decided it would be a small wedding. The reception would be open to all who wished to attend.Since it would be summer,if the weather stay warm, they would entertain their guests in the yard.

**********************************************

As they walked through the back field with William running ahead of them,Cainan took Zebrina's hand.He saw her cheeks color a pale pink.He squeezed her hand to put her at ease. "It's hard to get you alone these days Zebrina", he told her. "I am helping Sharley prepare for her wedding day", Zebrina smiled as she thought of how nervous Sharley was. "It is nice to have time away.I'm glad Marqus took her to town." "Yes,I am too. They are both as nervous as a fox before the hunt", Cainan said, making them both giggle. He stopped walking and pulled Zebrina toward him.Putting his hands on her shoulders,he turned her to face him. "Your smile brightens a gloomy day Zebrina". Zebrina looked up into his eyes.the surprise she felt at hearing his words showed in her face. "My words surprise you dear Zebrina?."

Cainan gazed into her sparkling blue eyes, remembering the past, how indifferent he had been toward her. "It was never my intention to scorn you when we first met.I had resigned myself to the fact that you would be brought here by Marqus.I have to tell you I was not as keen as he at the idea though." "That first time I came home and you stood trying to hide behind Marqus, so frightened.Your mass of unruly hair hiding your beautiful face", he ran his hand lightly over her hair, then continued to speak. "My heart leapt at the sight of you.But you were just a child,I had to steel myself against the emotions you stirred in me.I could not be in love with a mere child.

When I again left for school,I decided to stay away.I felt it was the best thing to do". Zebrina listened to ever word he said,at first not believing, but his eyes told her different She remembered back to the times he had shown her kindness.Though brief and few, they were the times she held close to her heart. She remembered when she and Sharley decided they woud each marry a brother, and the stab of pain in her heart when Marqus told of his marriage to Isabella.

A she remembered,a tear slid from her eye.She felt his hand on her cheek. As she again looked up at him,he bent and gently kissed it away. "Zebrina,I have seen several young men from town come to court you.Do you have a favorite?.One that you hope to marry?", He asked. Zebrina could do no more than answer a whispered "No". Cainan smiled and asked, "May I court you Zebrina?". He,as Marqus had, waited till he felt the time was right. She would soon be eighteen, though he was eight years her senior,he knew from that first meeting, that they belonged together.

Zebrina reached up to touch his cheek,he in turn covered her hand with his own. "Cainan,I have dreamed of you as a suitor.Hoping you would someday accept me.". "Yes Cainan, you may court me.You have made me very happy.". Cainan pulled her close to him, pressing her against his chest, kissing the top of her head. "Thank-you Zebrina,I will treat you as I should have all these years. With only love and kindness". "Cainan,we should speak to Marqus.I want him to approve", she told him. She squeezed his hand, then brought it to her lips, suddenly aware of her boldness.

"Yes,we will talk to him", he pulled her close again. He held her tightly,"Would Marqus approve?", he thought to himself.

Chapter 24

As the day of the wedding grew closer, Marqus was showing signs of being nervous. Sharley had spoken to him, worried he had changed his mind. Marqus reassured her that he had not.

“I have waited many years for this day. I want to make sure I can give you all you deserve", he explained to her. "I have you Marqus, thats all I need." Sharley hugged him tightly.

In reality, Marqus was worried about their import business. It was a slow time, customers were buying from illegal black markets to reduce their costs, and keep their shops open. Marqus had made several trips to London. trying to convince his regular customers to stick with him till importing picked up again. He agreed to reduce his prices. Some though, still dealt with the black market.

Cainan had talked to him about possibly moving to America. He told how people were eager to buy imported items there. He said that although he failed, he was sure with Marqus there they could be successful. Marqus agreed to think about it.

Two days before the wedding, Sharley was putting the finishing touches on her dress. It would be a light-weight linen material, with a lace overlay, a pale pink sash on her left hip, and a matching lace veil. She would wear white shoes with a one inch heel. She also wanted to carry a single red rose.

On one of his London trips, Marqus had bought himself the most fashionable suit he could find. Although it was costly, he thought he could use it for Cainan's wedding too.

Extra servants had been hired to help with the wedding day. Beatrice had them busy cleaning while she cooked and worked on the wedding cake. She wanted things to be in perfect order.

Cainan and Zebrina helped the couple as much as they could. They also stole moments to be by themselves when they could. Cainan asked her to marry him in the back field, where he first spoke of his love for her. William playing at their feet. Zebrina threw her arms are him and said yes. Cainan hugged her back, lifting her off her feet. "I wish it were you and I getting married tomorrow, Little Girl", He whispered in her ear. " As do I, My Love", Zebrina kissed his cheek.

She looked into his eyes, she could see the desire that burned in them. She suddenly felt a tingle deep in her abdomen. Quickly, she buried her face against his chest. Cainan set her back on her feet, putting an arm around her waist, he led her into the house.

That night, Sharley and Zebrina discussed last minute preparations for the wedding. Sharley put the last few stitches in the hem of her dress. Zebrina helped iron out any wrinkles that formed. Before Zebria left the room, she hugged Sharley. "I wish you the best Sharley, I know Marqus will take good care of you". "I'm so nervous", Sharley said. "I want everything to be perfect". "It will be", Zebrina added, "Now get some rest". She smiled as she left the room.

As Zebrina made her way to her room, Marqus and Cainan were talking in the hall. "Marqus, you should be resting", she told him, "You have a busy day tomorrow". "Yes, well, I don't think I'll do much sleeping tonight", he stated nervously. "Marqus, my dear brother, you must rest, you don't want to disappoint your bride tomorrow night do you?", Cainan said, teasingly. Zebrina blushed at his words, bowing her head to hide it.

"Cainan, such talk in front of Zebrina", Marqus smiled at her innocence. Cainan leaned down and kissed her cheek, feeling the heat of her blush. She quickly said good-night and went to her room.

Sharley lay awake thinking of Marqus. She hoped she would make a good wife for him. It seemed like hours before she finally drifted off to sleep.

Cainan checked William before he got into bed. As he lay down, he closed his eyes against the sting of tears. His desire for Zebrina was becoming unbearable.

Marqus stood by the window, looking out over the field. His long wait would be over in a few hours. He would begin his life with Sharley.

Zebrina lay thinking of her own wedding day. How long would they have wait, she wondered. She closed her eyes hoping all went well tomorrow. When she next opened them, the sun was shining brightly.

Chapter 25

Zebrina jumped out of bed and put on a robe. She left her room to check on Sharley. Although, she was sure she was up and getting ready. In the hall Marqus was going to wake Cain. Zebrina could see he was flustered. She went to him and hugged him. She could feel him relax a bit. "It will be fine Marqus. Everything is prepared," She said, trying to calm him. "But my lazy brother is still in bed!", He raised his voice so Cainan would hear him. Cainan opened his bedroom door and stuck his head out. "I'm up brother dear, who could sleep with all this hollering". He smiled when he saw Zebrina. "Marqus," Zebrina took his hand, "Please calm down. Go get yourself ready. I'll check on Sharley and make sure Beatrice is ready". Marqus turned quietly and returned to his room. As Zebrina passed,Cainan grabbed her. "You look beautiful in the morning Little Girl", he leaned down to kiss her. She pushed away saying, "Cainan, not now, I have to go to Sharley. You should go help Marqus."

"Yes I suppose I should. But, when this is over I expect a proper kiss from you", He whispered in that way that Zebrina had grown to love. She blushed as she walked away from him. He watched till he could no longer see her.

"Come in", Sharley answered to the knocking on her door. Zebrina came in smiling. "How are you doing Sharley, can I help in any way?", She asked. Sharley didn't seem half as nervous as Marqus she thought. "I'm doing fine. You could fasten my dress." She turned her back to Zebrina. "You look beautiful, Marqus will be pleased when he sees you!", Zebrina told her.

When Sharley was finished dressing, Zebrina went back to her room to get ready, there was only an hour till the minister arrived. She readied herself then went to check on Marqus. He was dressed and ready. Sitting in his chair waiting. Cainan was busy with William. She went back downstairs just as the minister arrived. She showed him to the parlor and Beatrice brought him a drink. Guests were gathering in the yard, filling the chairs that were set out. As she went to tell Sharley it would soon be time, Cainan came down carrying William. Marqus was right behind him. They joined the minister. Zebrina went to sit with Sharley. She gave Sharley the gift she bought her. "I wanted to get you something special, I hope you like it", Zebrina handed her the brightly wrapped box.

Sharley opened it pulling out a white cotton nightdress. It was trimmed in lace, with a tie at the neckline. "Zebrina, It's beautiful. I hadn't thought of what I would wear tonight", she said with a blush. Minutes later, Cainan knocked on the door and came in.

"It's time", he said. Zebrina gave Sharley a hug and left the room. "You look lovely Sharley", Cainan told her, smiling. He held his arm out to her and escorted her outside.

Marqus watched as she walked toward him, joining him under the arch by the garden. He took her hand as they turned to face the minister. They listened as the minister spoke, asking them to say their wedding vows. Marqus then slipped a gold ring on Sharley's finger. "I pronounce you lawfully wed. Go in peace and love", the minister finished.

For the first time, Marqus kissed her in public. He then turned and shook Cainan's hand. Zebrina and Sharley hugged. The guests started to gather around to congratulate the newlyweds.

Then everyone was directed to the ballroom where brunch would be served. Beatrice and the other servants had tables set and ready as they came in. After the cake was served, Sharley went to change into her traveling clothes. Marqus changed to a more casual suit. It was one o'clock when the carriage arrived to take them to Dawlish. From there they would go to London. Their first night together was spent in a fancy hotel in London.

When they arrived at their hotel, Sharley went into the bathroom to clean up. She put on the nightdress that Zebrina gave her. She looked in the mirror to check herself. Her face was flushed, she hoped Marqus wouldn't know she was a little frightened. Marqus stood on the balcony waiting for her. He had dreams of this night for years. He would make sure he was gentle with her, wanting her first time to be a good experience. He undressed to the waist as he waited for her.

Sharley came into the bedroom quietly. She stood behind him, admiring his muscular back. She softly called his name. Marqus turned, his eyes taking in the sight of her. Her black hair flowing over her shoulders. A gentle breeze blowing it about her face. He came back into the room and closed the doors. Sharley watched his every move as he came closer.

As he looked into her eyes, he could see her apprehension. He gently took her hand and kissed it. "I will do my best not to hurt you My Sweet, I love you", he spoke softly.

Taking her other hand, he placed them on his chest. He pulled her close, kissing her with passion. Marqus then guided her to the bed. He coaxed her to sit down, as he stood in front of her and removed the rest of his clothes. Sharley watched, taking in every inch of his naked body. She wondered if she was too small for him. Nervously she stood, she untied the front of her gown and let it fall to the floor. "I love you Marqus", she whispered. She lay down, Marqus lay next to her. He ran his hands over her body to prepare her. Sharley took a quick breath when his hand touched her womanhood.

Marqus felt her wetness. He moved between her legs, resting on his knees for a moment. Leaning forward, his big hands engulfed her breasts. The sight of her nude body was all he needed to become erect. He brought his lips down to hers, his gentle touch helping Sharley to relax as he started to enter her. Sharley winced against the initial pain. Marqus soothed her before going further. He had done as he said he would. He was gentle, and Sharley would always remember this night.

The next morning she lay quiet watchng him sleep, thinking of how happy she was. A knock at the door woke Marqus, it was the bellboy reminding them they had a train to catch. They would finish their wedding trip in Paris.

Chapter 26

Cainan,Zebrina and William stood waving as the carriage drove away. When the last guests left,Cainan went to the parlor to relax. He sat down, letting out a deep sigh.He closed his eyes and rested his head on the back of the chair. He could hear William and Zebrina giggling in the entryway.

He wondered how Zebrina could have any patients left for William. William came bounding into the room, going immediately to his toys. Zebrina followed, she tried to walk past Cain to the next chair. He grabbed her arm, pulling her on to his lap.

"Cainan!", Zebrina said with surprise."We must'nt do this,it's not proper!".

"Manners be damned,no one is here to see us", He tightened his hold on her.

"William is here", she whispered to him.

"He is only a child,he see's and forgets", Cainan explained.

He pressed his lips to her's.He kissed her passionately, Zebrina felt the now familiar tingle.

"Daddy,,I `posta sit on your lap,,not `Brina", William said, trying to climb onto his father. Cainan sighed,"Okay, there's room for both of you", he smiled as he lifted his son.

He looked from William to Zebrina,"My family will be whole again", he said with misty eyes.

When evening set in,Zebrina gave William a bath and put him to bed.

Cainan went outside into the cool night air. He thought back to that morning, and a conversation he had with Marqus.

"Cainan,,,"Marqus hesitated, not wanting to insult his brother. He trusted him to be alone with Zebrina, but had to be sure.

"Yes Marqus,,,what is it?", Cainan asked. Marqus looked away."Cainan, you and Zebrina will be alone for almost three weeks.I've seen you with her in the field. You get very passionate with her,,". Cainan's eyes widened as Marqus spoke.Marqus was asking if Cainan could keep his desires under control while he was gone.Cainan knew he couldn't promise his brother, but he would put his mind at ease.

"You've raised Zebrina to be a proper young woman Marqus", He explained," If she would allow me to take her before marriage, you being here would not stop me.You have nothing to worry about.Go and enjoy your wedding trip", He smiled at his brother, hoping he had not lied to him.

Marqus breathed a sigh of relief. But in the back of his mind, he wondered if Zebrina could handle Cainan's advances.

Zebrina finished with William and went to her room to freshen up and prepare for bed.Wanting to say good-night to Cain, she went downstairs. She saw the front door open and went outside Cainan was sitting on the step, his head in his hands. He had not heard Zebrina's approach. He gave a little start when she touched his shoulder.

"Zebrina,my dear,I didn't hear you", he said, looking up at her.He took her hand, kissing the back of it.

"I came to say Good-Night Cainan", she ran her the fingers of her free hand through his long hair.

"Sit with me awhile My Love?", Cain asked. "Are you not feeling well Cain?", Zebrina queried,as she sat next to him.

"I'm fine Little Girl,I love you".He put his arms around her shoulders, pulling her close.Marqus' face flashed in his mind.He must at least try to be true to Marqus. He hugged Zebrina tighter before releasing her."Come My Dear,I'll walk you to your room",he said,as he stood and offered her his hand.

As they reached Zebrina's room, she squeezed his hand,"I love you too Cainan", She told him,in a soft, whispery voice. Cainan looked down at her and smiled,he caressed her face, leaning down to kiss her gently."Good-Night Zebrina Dear". Good-night Cainan", Zebrina turned and went into her room, closing the door behind her.

Cainan ran his hand over the wooden door.He knew it would not be easy to not seduce her.He sighed with frustation, then went to his own bed.

As the days past,Zebrina busied herself with the care of William, and her needlework. She was starting to feel as if Cainan was trying to avoid her at times. He was busy with business with Marqus gone, she knew. She spent many evenings alone in the parlor, hoping he would join her.Only to have him step in for a moment to say good-night.She was beginning to wonder if he didn't want her anymore.

Cainan thought if he spent less time with Zebrina,he could better control his desire. He realized soon it wouldn't work.He could also see the hurt and worry in Zebrina's eyes.He missed talking to her,the way she smelled of lavender, her laugh. His willpower waned. He knew he would try.If she rejected his advances,he would wait. But insist they marry soon."I'm sorry Marqus", he whispered to himself. That evening,he took William and settled him in for the night. He then bathed and dressed only in his under garments. He waited till he knew Zebrina was in her room, giving her time to get settled in.He then left his room, standing before her door for several long minutes.

Zebrina sat in bed with tear-filled eyes.Cainan had taken William this evening. Her worst fear was coming true, she was sure."Why else would Cain put William to bed?", she thought to herself. She sat trying to remember what she might have done or said to make Cainan not want her,but she could think of nothing. It never entered her mind that it was her beauty that kept him away.

Cain finally knocked softly on her door.He heard her bed linens rustle as she got up to answer his knock.

Chapter 27

Cainan walked back to his room.He pulled on a pair of trousers, deciding not to be too obvious. He then went back and stood by Zebrina's door again.

He raised his fist to knock,,then lowered it. "We are to be married anyway,,why must we wait", he thought to himself," If she insists on waiting,,I will leave gracefully". Raising his fist, with a moments hesitation,he softly knocked on the door. He could hear the rustling of bed linens as she got up. "Who's there?", he heard her soft voice through the door. "It is I Zebrina, may I speak with you?", he asked. Zebrina slipped on her robe and opened the door.

"Good Evening Cainan", Zebrina said, bowing her head,he stood before her bare-chested. Cain saw her cheeks pink up a bit.He thought back to his first morning back. The sight of her looking at him,had excited him.He had tried to look at her through half closed eyes, but she had turned to tend to William.

She felt his fingers urging her head up.She looked up at him and smiled.

"Zebrina,my Dear,I've been so busy lately.I miss the time we spend together, our talks.I wonder if I might come in and sit with you awhile?", He asked cautiously. Zebrina knew it wasn't proper to have a man in her bedroom, not even Cainan. But she had been so worried, she decided it would be alright, just this once.Nobody would know. She opened the door wider,"Yes Cain,I have missed talking to you too". Cainan entered the room, closing the door behind him.

"Please,my Dear, get back into bed,I'll bring a chair close.", Cainan told her.He retrieved a chair by the window.Just as he turned back to Zebrina, she was removing her robe, and climbing into bed. He took a deep breath, and walked back toward her. Zebrina covered herself with the blankets. Cainan smiled as she fussed,he reached out and took her hand, kissing it softly.

"How have you been Child?",He asked,"Has Willam been too much on you?".

"No,I enjoy caring for him.I feel as if he is,,,", she hesitated.

"Your own?", Cainan quieried.

"Yes,I've grown very close to him".Zebrina hoped her attachment to William would keep Cainan interested.

"And he has grown close to you.He asked tonight if he could call you `mama`,I told him I'd ask..but he should probably wait till we are wed".Cain saw Zebrina's eye light up at the mention of their wedding.

Cainan leaned forward and kissed her cheek.Zebrina wrapped her arms around his neck, squeezing as hard as she could.

"I love you so Cainan".

Cainan smiled, with a chuckle he said"Child,If you keep this up,I won't be responsible for my actions".

Zebrina pulled back enough to look into his eyes. The meaning of his words was notlost on her.She had lain awake many nights wondering what their first night together would be like.At times she had fantasized about him seducing her.

They were still, doing nothing but looking at each other,Zebrina's arms locked around his neck.Cainan looking deep into her eyes, saw the same desire he felt.

"Zebrina,,My love", He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close, the other arm slid across the backs of her knees as he pulled her on to his lap.

He held her close to him.Zebrina lay her head on his well muscled shoulder. As Cainan stood with her in his arms, her right hand slid from around his neck, comin to rest on his chest. He kissed her softly as he lay her on the bed.Sitting next her,he caressed her face.

"Are you sure Zebrina?", he asked in a whispered voice.

She only nodded her head.Cainan was as gentle as he could be.She cried out when he first entered her,but was soon swept up in the passion of being with her beloved Cainan.

Afterwards,Cainan held her close to him,as if she would disappear if he let go. Zebrina's breathing slowed, telling him she was sleep. His eyes filled wih tears, his love and desire for her so strong,he went agaiinst his brother's wishes.

He decided that before Marcus returned,he would make things right.

Chapter 28

William dozed against his father's chest, lulled to sleep by the rocking of the carriage.

Cainan had convinced Zebrina that they should marry before Marqus returned. He would tell Marqus the truth, but thought it might ease his anger to know they were now married.

Zebrina was at first disappointed at the thought of not having a wedding like Sharley's.But after they started to London, she was content just to be marrying her beloved Cainan.

She knew Marqus would be disappointed in her. They had talked about her resisting Cain's advances. She hoped he would forgive her.

When they arrived in London,Cainan got them settled into a hotel room. After resting and cleaning up,they went shopping.Zebrina picked out a sofft pink dress, with a lace hem as her wedding dress. The store owner help her pick out a hat that suited the dress.

Cainan took William to get him a suit, his first. He would be Cainan's best man.Cain would wear the suit he wore at Marqus' wedding.

They went to the local courthouse to arrange a time for the ceremony.

After they were wed, they would stay in London and wait for Marqus and Sharley to return.

The next morning,Zebrina sat at the vanity trying to get her hair under control,so she could wear her new hat.

"Zebrina,my Love, your hair is beautiful", Cainan said,as he came and stood behind her.

"The hat will not fit right if it's so unruly. The woman at the store said it should be tied up", Zebrina complained.

"I should cut it all off".

"You will do no such thing.I love your hair as it is". Cainan ran his fingers through her hair."I won't allow you to cut it.I think you look prettier wihout the hat.Leave your hair as it is".

The hat was left on the vanity as they left the room.

The ceremony was quick. For which,Cainan was thankful.William could not have stood still much longer.

Cainan took them to dine in one of the fancier restaurant in London. After,he took her to visit her mother's grave. It was only the second time she had been there.Zebrina knelt and lay her wedding bouquet next the the gravestone.

That night, after William was asleep, they made love.Cainan taught her things she didn't know were possible.

Their time in London went by quickly. The next day,Marqus and Sharley would return.Cainan knew Zebrina was growing nervous, worring about Marqus' reaction to their quick marriage. He hoped Marqus directed his anger toward him,and not Zebrina. He soothed her as best he could.

It was late afternoon before Marqus and Sharley's train pulled into the station.

Zebrina spotted Sharley and called to her. As they greeted each otheer,Cainan told Marqus he reserved a room for them, and that they would leave for home in the morning.

Cainan arranged to have dinner brought to Marqus' room.He didn't think it right to be in a public place when he told him of the marriage.

Marqus was curious as to why Cain had gone to so much trouble and expense. They could have taken a night coach, and saved the price of three hotel rooms.

At dinner,Sharley told them about their trip.Zebrina listened, occaisionally glancing toward Marqus.

"Well,,that was an enjoyable dinner,Cainan.Thank-you for arranging it to be brought here.It was much more relaxing.", Marqus stated. Looking at Zebrina,he thought she looked distracted.

"Are you ill Zebrina,You've been very quiet tonight?", he asked.

"I feel fine Marqus", was all she said.

"Marqus", Cainan began, putting an arm around Zebrina."We have something to tell you both."

"Zebrina and I were married a week ago. Here in London by a judge. We both hope you will understand. We did not want to wait any longer".As Cain talked he could feel Zebrina shaking,he tighten his hold on her to comfort her.

He watched Marqus, waiting for him to speak.

Marqus looked from Cainan to Zebrina. He fought to keep his anger in check. "If this is what you both wanted, who am I to say anything.Unless there is another reason you married without waiting till we returned?", Marqus waited for his brother to answer, knowing in his heart what he would say.His anger and disappointment grew.

"We are married Marqus, that is what is important", Cainan said.

Marqus stood up quickly, knocking over his chair,he walked too the window. He was quiet as he stood looking out into the night. He had known before he left it would happnen. But It still angered him.

"Come Zebrina", Cainan told her,"We will talk tomorrow on the ride home".

Zebrina looked over at Marqus.

"Marqus,,," she called to him in a whispered voice.

"Goodnight Child", he said gruffly.

Back in their room,Cainan held Zebrina till she cried herself to sleep.

The ride home started out very quietly. Zebrina sat close to Cainan, her head down, not wanting to see the anger in Marqus' eyes.

"Marqus", Cain spoke,"Would you be less anger if I had taken Zebrina's innocence and not married her?".

"Of course not!", Marqus stated. "Then don't be anger with the girl.", Cainan said.

Marqus watched as a tear slid down Zebrina's cheek."She's not a child anymore", he thought to himself"She is of age to what pleases her".

He reached over and took her hand. "Zebrina,If this is what truly makes you happy,I am happy for you, both of you.I just wish I could have been here for you.I know Cainan will be a good husband to you."

Zebrina squeezed his hand, kissing the back, then pressing it to her cheek."Thank-you Marqus".

Chapter 29

The two couples settled into their new lives together. It wasn't long before both Zebrina and Sharley were expecting. Sharley would give Marqus five children, three sons and two daughters. Zebrina gave Cainan three daughters. William doted on his sisters.

The brothers import business was slowly going downhill.Marqus had tried everything he knew to keep it going.Nothing seemed to work. They were steadily losing money.Cainan again talked to him about moving to America.

"It might be our only chance to hold on to the business", Marqus conceded.

Marqus thought along time before deciding. To move everyone to America would not be easy.traveling so far would be difficult on the children.

"But what other choice is there?", he thought to himself.

In April of 1912,after selling what they could, the two families started their journey to their new home. The trip was hard on all of them.Starting when they missed the ship they were originally booked on.

Their train had been delayed several times. They didn't reach South Hampton till the day after The Titanic set sail. They had hoped to travel on this new, luxurious, unsinkable ship.

It wasn't till they reached New York that they heard of the tragedy. They were,to say the least, stunned. If their train had been on time,,,No one wanted to finish that thought.

Marqus was not happy in the big city of New York. After visiting several states on the east coast, they all decided Florida would be a good home.the children liked the beaches.Marqus and Cainan liked the location. They could work in the city, and live away from it.

Their lives were full and happy, business was better than it had ever been in England.Even through the depression years they managed to stay afloat.

When he was old enough,William joined his father and uncle to help with their business. In 1921,at age 25,he married and started his own family.

The families lived out their lives in happiness. There were many weddings, and alot of grandchildren. The first tragedy struck in 1945,when at age seventy-seven,Marqus died.Sharley was devastated. She would never fully recover. It was her children and grandchildren that kept her going..Till her death in 1959,at age 82.

*******************************************

It is now 1979,Zebrina lay in her bed,her family has just left her alone. They were all there to celebrate her 100th birthday. She now had two great-great grandchildren. She has out-lived two of her daughters, and William. Her tired eyes strung with tears still as she remembered losing her beloved Cainan in 1954,he was 83.

She often told her grandchildren the stories of living in Dawlish. How she came to live with Marqus. How,now that she knew, her mother was a victim of Jack the Ripper. The two that seemed most fascinated by her stories were Mark,19 and Glen,15.They were cousins, but very close to each other. She secretly thought of them as her favorites. They were so much like their great grandfathers.

Two weeks later Zebrina lay dyeing, her heart was giving out.As members of her family said their good-byes,she could hardly open her eyes to look one last time at their faces. She passed quietly, when next she opened her eyes, there, standing in front of her,was her beloved Cainan.

******************************************

August 8,2001,,,Mark and Glen stood behind the curtain waiting for their music to start. They were doing a house show in Memphis Tn.They had both became professional wrestlers. Both loving their work.

"Today is Gramma Z's birthday", Glen said quietly.

"Yep,,I still miss hearing her stories", Mark replied."She was a wonderful lady.I wish she was around to know Maggie and my kids".

"After the show,Sharon and I are driving down to Florida.I want to introduce her to the family,I'm going to visit Gramma Z,put some lilies on her grave.", Glen said, picturing Zebrina's face.

The music started and pyros exploded. "Come on Bro,time to go to work." Mark patted Glen's back as they started down the ramp.

The End.
