Chapter 1

Mark was taking his two sons to his parent's ranch. He had chosen to drive instead of fly as it would give him more time with them. As he drove down the interstate he thought back to when he and Sherry first married.

He had just signed a contract with the WWF, then married a month later. Sherry had not minded at first as she would go on the road with him. A year later, she became pregnant. It seemed that there was no prouder or happier couple than the two of them. Mark had insisted that she take it easy and told her no more going on the road. At the time Sherry agreed. Mark had always been fond of children and could hardly wait for the day when he would be holding his first child. Two weeks before she was to give birth, Vince gave Mark the time off so he could be there for the delivery. They named him Lucas. Things were fine for a while and despite his busy schedule Mark would always find a way to come home and be with them.

Two years later, Sherry became pregnant again. Mark came home as often as he could, but his character had become more popular, and it was getting more difficult for him to make it home. They had planned he would be there again for the delivery, but a last minute change in the schedule had him miss the birth of his second son, Sean.

After that Sherry changed. She would become angry and accuse Mark of preferring wrestling over his family. He told her that he loved his family very much; it was that he had a very busy schedule. They began to argue more and more. At one point, the boys became very upset when they heard them argue. During one of their arguments, she had accused him of going with other women. Mark would tell her that he was not going with anyone, that she was the only woman in his life. He promised her he would take a month off and spend it with her and the boys. She told him that wasn't good enough and informed him that she would be starting divorce proceedings, citing irreconcilable differences and abandonment. Two months later, Mark received the papers. Mark was not going to sign them at first, but his attorney advised him it would be better if he did. At the hearing, the judge gave Sherry full custody of the boys, with the stipulation that Mark would be allowed to visit them under supervision only. The judge ordered Mark to pay child support, warning Mark about the consequences of not getting the payments on time. Mark could hardly believe he would have to be supervised just to see his two sons. It was evident to him that Sherry had convinced the lawyer that Mark was an unfit father.

It was difficult trying to see them. It seemed Sherry had an excuse whenever he came to see them, or if he did manage to see them, it was only for an hour. About a year later Mark found out that Sherry had been seeing someone else just about the time she had become pregnant with Sean. At first he doubted whether Sean was his or not. But one look at Sean told him that he was his.

When the day came for his scheduled visit he had found the boys at home alone. Mark took Sherry to court this time to gain custody of his sons. The judge was reluctant to let Mark have custody because of the records from the first hearing. His parents, Frank and Anna, went to court with him and told the judge that the boys would be staying with them and that they would be under their care at all times. Mark brought in proof that Sherry not only had been seeing someone else but that on more than one occasion she had left them by themselves. The judge this time gave full custody to Mark and his parents. Sherry had looked at him with anger in her eyes and had stormed out of the courtroom.
