Book 2 Chapter 2
After the boys left the next morning, Mara said she would pick Mark up at the airport. She was anxious to see him, but also wanting to tell him what had been happening. Frank and Anna had not wanted him know, saying he had enough to worry about without having that on his mind. Mara had called Judi and talked to her about it.
"Mara, you're doing the right thing. Mark needs to know. He'll know how to handle it."
She waited in the terminal, wondering how she was going to tell him. She heard his flight number being called and saw him come out of the tunnel.
Mark looked around expecting to see his dad. When he saw Mara, he smiled. He ran over and picked her up, crushing her lips. Finally he sat her down. "I was expecting dad. This is better" holding on to her.
Mara took a deep breath. "Mark Let's go over to the waiting room. I have to tell you something."
Mark got his bags then sat down. Mara told him about the phone calls and the police coming out.
"Do the boys know?"
"No. We try not to say anything when they're around. Don't say that you know. The phone calls have stopped for now."
Mark's brows furrowed in anger. "Why didn't they want me to know?"
"They felt you had enough to worry about without having to add that on top of it."
"Mara, when it concerns my family, I have every right to know. I'm glad you told me. I won't say anything for now."
When they reached the house, Anna and Frank ran to greet him. Mark was glad to be home, even if it was only for a few days. About 3:30 Mara went to the end of the drive to wait for the bus. As usual the boys were last to get off. When they got to the porch, Mark came out of the house. The boys yelled, Mark scooping them up in his arms. "Uh! Seems you guys are getting heavier. What are you feeding them?" Looking at his mom.
"The same thing I fed you, and you see what happened," Anna chuckled.
Two figures were watching the scene from a distance as they saw the figures go in the house. "Who is it?"
"It's the guy in the photo I told you about. You know, the wrestler."
"Must have gotten some time off. Still want to do it now?"
"No, we wait till he's gone. I don't want to risk running in to him. We got time."
"Where's Glen?"
"He went over to Judi's house, so I don't think we'll be hearing from him," he said with a smirk.
Glen and Judi were busy getting reacquainted. "Baby, it feels good to hold you," he murmured, unbuttoning her shirt. Several minutes later they were laying there, their breathing gradually slowing. Judi was staring at the ceiling.
"What are you thinking about? he asked as he kissed her neck.
"The phone calls."
Glen sat up. "What phone calls? Is someone harassing you?"
"No, at Frank and Anna's." She told him what had been going on and the police coming there. "She was going to meet Mark at the airport and tell him. I hope she has. He does need to know."
Everyone was outside. Mark was playing with Sean and Lucas. As usual, Mark let the boys pin him. Then he rolled over, pinning them. "Give?" The boys squealing as he tickled them. "We give up!"
It was time for bed. Mark tucked them in then went outside and sat beside Mara. Anna motioned for Frank to come in. "The blankets are still in the loft," he whispered before going in.
