The Ref

Chapter 1

As they walked in,she was awe-struck by the size of the room,and the seemingly hundreds of people.Thankful that Steve had offered to be her escort,she would need his strength.Their relationship had ended,but they remained friends,he still loved her,but knew he would never have her heart,it belonged elsewhere. They found their assigned seats,and tried not to be noticed yet.

This was for her,her retirement,after ten years she had no other choice,her body was giving out.She would miss her job terribly.She would miss the guys,the traveling.It had become her life,and they were her family.But, she had done what she set out to do.She became the first female pro-wrestling referee.Something she wanted to do since she saw her first wrestling match.

A tear formed in her eye at the thought of it coming to an end.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As she looked around the room,she thought back to the first time she met Vince.She was called in for an interview,only to find out Vince himself would be questioning her.She sat nervously in the outer office till he called her in.
Vince liked the idea of a female ref,if she was the right type of person.She had to be tough,and able to stand up to the wrestlers,keep them in line. He looked her over when she came through the door,she had a medium build,not skinny,but not fat either.She carried herself well,and obviously took care of herself.Her long blonde curls fell past her shoulders,she had full breasts,always a plus with Vince.She held her head up,and looked back at him with clear blue eyes.
She was nervous,but did her best to hide it.She wouldn't be intimidated by him,She knew she had to be strong.She stood her ground and answered all his questions.They talked for almost two hours.
When they were finished,she had the job on a trial basis.If she did well and could handle the wrestlers,she would be hired permanently.She would start training next week.
She left the office in a daze,she had dreamed of this,but never thought it would happen.She knew it was a long shot to even apply for the job,now,she was about to start a new life.
As she walked out the front door,still reeling from her meeting with Vince,and getting hired,she ran into what felt like a brick wall.She looked up into a pair of dark glasses.
As he removed them,she was greeted with sparkling green eyes. He looked down at the pretty blonde before him,,,"Excuse me",he said,"I wasn't watching where you were going". "I'm sorry",she said with a smile,and diverted her eyes from him.
He moved aside and let her pass,at the same time,they both turned and looked at each other, A little smile crossed his lips,though she didn't notice it.It was her first meeting with Mark.
At the time,she didn't know he was a wrestler,and also new to the company. Back in Vince's office,he was telling his newest find about the female ref he just hired. As Vince described her,a slight smile crossed Mark's lips,he would be seeing more of her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bringing herself back to the present,she looked around the room.He wasn't there yet,but he would be,she knew he would,but with someone else,not her.She had prepared herself for it.After his divorce she hoped they would become more than friends.But he wasn't interested in her that way,or so she thought.

They loved each other with a fiery passion.Though they had never loved each other physically.He was engaged when they first met and started working together.She was just divorced,they seemed to be drawn to each other,but decided they would remain friends,close friends.At times,over the next ten years,it would prove to be very hard to stay just friends.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ He came through the door and looked around.He spotted her at the center table,with Steve.He was glad he was with her,he knew she would need his support.But wished it was himself sitting next to her.
He wanted them to become lovers,but if it didn't work,he would lose both a lover and his best friend.He wanted her in his life forever,if it meant staying friends,that's how it would be.He wouldn't risk losing her too.The divorce had taken its toll on him,he doubted he would ever remarry.He stood and looked at her,she,not realizing he was there.
"She looks exceptionally beautiful tonight",he thought to himself.
With a hard tug on his arm,his date broke his thoughts of Kye. They found their seats. Kylie spotted him as he sat down next to his date.She turned away quickly,it seemed to be getting harder to see him with other women.
